First AID, CPR, Life Saving Skills

Program on First Aid, CPR, Emergency Life Saving Skills (LSBHE)

In September 2009, D.C. Everest Junior High dealt with the death of a student who collapsed at cross-country practice.

A few years ago, Stevens Point Area Senior High dealt with the death of a male track athlete after he collapsed in the field house.

In both instances, there were trained staff members and paramedics on the scene that could give cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but for those involved, it was an eye-opener to the importance of having the proper medical training.

"It brings a light on the value of the training that you have received. It's a wake-up call," said Jack Overgaard, D.C. Everest High School athletic director.

Objective

The objective is to empower the teachers through these specialized training workshops, who will then train the students, of their respective instituitions in the knowledge and practice of First Aid skills, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other selective aspects of emergency care in emergency situations within their own environment.

Goals

  • To create awareness and impart knowledge of First Aid practice and skills and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation in emergency situations.
  • To help develop responsive and responsible attitudes to emergency situations.
  • To impart basic first aid and CPR skills in emergency and life threatening situations.
